Dutch breakfast

Each morning I'll give myself a moment to think about what I really feel like having for breakfast - then I work out how to have it within my limit of 200 calories. I find this a good limit - gives me enough for the start of the day and leaves me enough for a snack later on in the morning. Some people are big breakfast eaters and may stay full till lunch time and therefore prefer to allow more for a big breaky. Others like to start with a cup of coffee and nothing more. From what I've read most of the 'experts' recommend eating something and recommend having protein (fuller for longer stuff). It's also important to balance out the rush from any carbs (bread) with the protein and a bit of fat (preferably this should be 'healthy fat' - not saturated - and not much of it!). One of my favourite breakfasts - just like the pancakes this is also inspired from my ancestry from Holland - is bread with cheese and pâté.

Now - that could potentially be a high calorie meal! It also involves some saturated fats so I chose lighter versions. This meal is comprised of:

1 & 3/4 slices of Weight Watchers Danish Brown bread (85) ... Yes throw the rest out or feed to the birds!
One slice Light Leerdamer cheese (55)
2 Tsp (13g) Reduced Fat Mushroom Pâté (35)
1 tsp (5g) Bertolli Light Spread (18)
Cup of Tea with 20ml (splash) skimmed milk (5)

That's 198 calories and my needs are fulfilled!

In regard to the fat content? Well it's 8g (4.5g saturated) ... That is a little high in one meal so this wouldn't be a daily breakfast for me - unless I really want it!! .... I find that if I have what I 'should' rather than what I really want (in moderation) I have a day of head spins and cravings to deal with!
